Graduation 2022: What You Need to Know

Graduation is less than 1 month away, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! We are so proud of all you have achieved. We are excited and expectant for all that God has ahead for you as you step into this next season of life. 

  

See below for all the details you will need to know as you prepare for Graduation on Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m. 

Please note, if you are participating in Liberty University’s Main Ceremony on Friday, May 6th, the details are at the end of this blog. 

  

When and where is LUOA’s Graduation Ceremony? 

Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m. EST in the Vines Center.

When do doors open? 

Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. No one will be allowed into the Vines Center earlier. 

We encourage you to arrive early to allow time as we will have certain restrictions and regulations we need to follow. Also, there is no reserved seating, so come early. 

 

When and where do Graduates check-in? 

Graduates need to check-in between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. 

There will be a check-in table at the front entrance of the Vines Center. Students will receive a special senior gift and then be led to the Senior Gathering Area while families and friends find their seats. 

 

What restrictions are in place in the Vines Center? 

There will be metal detectors at all entrances as well as a clear bag policy in effect. 

 

Do I need a ticket to get into Graduation? 

No. There are no tickets required for this event and there is no reserved seating. 

  

Where do we park? 

You are welcome to park in the Runk and Pratt Garage (and then walk through the tunnel to the Vines Center) or the Academic Commons Parking Garage.

Will there be a livestream? 

Yes. Degree presentation ceremonies will be livestreamed online during the scheduled degree presentation ceremony and available for viewing afterwards online. A link will be available on the main Commencement website that family and friends can use to watch online.

Will food and beverage be available for sale? 

Yes. The concession stands in the Vines Center will be open. 

 

Will there be access to restrooms? 

Yes. All bathrooms in the Vines Center will be available for use. 

  

What are the ADA accommodations? 

If you are in need of assistance because of ADA accommodations, park on the 3rd level of the Academic Commons Parking Garage (This is a direct entry to the Academic Lawn.) or the parking lot in front of Demoss Hall. From there, special representatives and ushers will ensure they help you with whatever needs you may have as you enter the Vines Center and find seats.

When will I get my High School Diploma? 

Students will receive their diploma 4-6 weeks after their degree has been conferred by their academic evaluator upon completing their last class and all program requirements for their diploma. If you have not yet finished all the requirements, then you will not receive your diploma until they have been completed.

When will I receive my Associate Degree if I am on an Associate Track? 

All students on the Associate Track must complete all High School requirements and have their High School Diploma conferred first. Then, they will receive a Graduation Application to apply to confer their Associate Degree.

Are students required to wear regalia at LUOA’s Graduation Ceremony? 

Yes, graduates will need to wear regalia. Please make sure to purchase regalia online by April 15th. 

All regalia can be purchased here: highschool.herffjones.com. Enter the school name: “LU Online Academy.” Graduates will be wearing red caps and gowns with a red, white, and blue cord (included in the purchase of your cap and gown).

Are there graduation cords for special recognitions? 

Students who are following the AA track or who are in Beta Club can receive special cords to recognize their accomplishments. To receive the cords, they must complete this form: https://liberty.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3Er43LYXw3Rfzzo  

All requests must be made by April 15th 

There are no other recognitions. LUOA is an open enrollment program, and therefore it would be challenging to determine individual class standings. Therefore, we do not select a class valedictorian or salutatorian. In addition, we do not offer special honors cords for specific GPAs. We only offer cords for participation in the AA track or Beta Club. 

 

Will Graduates line up and process in? 

Yes. Once seniors check-in, they will be led to the Senior Gathering Area where they will be lined up. 

  

Will there be professional photos of the ceremony? 

Yes. Liberty University has professional photographers capturing every moment of the event. Information will be sent in the weeks after graduation on how to access these photos. 

 

Below is information regarding Liberty University’s Main Ceremony on Friday, May 6th at 6:30 p.m. This ceremony will include an opportunity to process in, hear from Liberty University’s Commencement Speaker and be a part of the University wide celebration, including Undergraduate and Graduate programs. This IS NOT a LUOA specific ceremony and students WILL NOT have their names read during this ceremony. 

 

Where is the ceremony? 

The ceremony will be in Williams Stadium.

What time is the ceremony? 

The ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m. EST and will end with a celebratory fireworks display.  

Gates open at 6:00 a.m. 

Processional begins at 8:30 a.m. 

  

Where do the Graduates line up? 

LUOA Graduates will meet LUOA Staff on the Liberty University Indoor Football Practice Facility to line up between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

Will there be food provided for the Graduates? 

We will be feeding graduates box lunches at the line up location on the Indoor Football Practice Facility prior to the Main Ceremony. 

 

What is the rain plan and how will I be notified? 

Due to impending inclement weather, the 2022 Commencement Main Ceremony has been moved to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6.  

The LUOA Individual Degree Presentation Ceremonies, scheduled for Saturday, May 7th at 10 a.m. in the Vines Center, is still running as originally scheduled.
