Melany A. Pearl
Executive Director 

The Executive Director of the Office of Equity & Inclusion is responsible for oversight of the department’s objectives and outcomes as fulfilled through programming related to racial wellness, equity, and cultural competency. The position is responsible to university initiatives outside of the department and assists in minority student recruitment/retention, participates on Behavioral Intervention Team and acts a department liaison as related to professional development to faculty and staff. This position has management and oversight of all staffing and budgetary decisions. 

Jose Hernandez

The Director of the Office of Equity & Inclusion works closely with the executive director and has responsibility for overseeing programs aimed at cultivating racial wellness, managing the departmental budget, and leading professional development efforts for department staff. This position also assists with working alongside the associate directors to ensure operations are in alignment with the purpose of the Office of Equity & Inclusion, and ultimately, Liberty University.


Stephanie Smith
Associate Director - LEAD Fellowship

The Associate Director oversees all program aspects of the recruitment/retention program for first-generation and/or minority students, the Leadership Excellence and Academic Development Fellowship. This position supports 100 LEAD fellows by providing financial assistance, monthly training, family involvement projects, experiential learning opportunities and character development through peer mentorship, academic support. This four-year program supports students from freshman year to graduation.


David Shinkle
Associate Director - Communications

The Associate Director of Visual Communications oversees the direction and production of all print and online materials, videos, ad distribution, social media and web development. This position creates strategic marketing and is the department liaison to the university’s marketing department to adhere to overarching Liberty University branding standards.


Quan McLaurin
Associate Director - Student Engagement

The Associate Director of Student Engagement is responsible for a variety of opportunities geared toward increasing students’ cultural competency - awareness, knowledge, and skills. This position oversees the following recognition months: Hispanic Heritage Month, African American History Month and Women’s History Month. This position works with academic departments on speaker’s bureau and is the liaison for multicultural clubs on campus. This position serves as the department’s assessment coordinator.



Shaq Cook
Associate Director - Community Engagement

The Associate Director for Community Engagement is responsible for cultivating strategic partnerships through community outreach initiatives. This position oversees innovative engagement initiatives for the dual-purpose of goodwill and student recruitment.




Samantha Newton
Assistant Director of Operations

The Operations Manager is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day management of the department to ensure effective and efficient operations. This position manages all facilities, including scheduling on 25Live, acts as the budget coordinator, supervises staff retention efforts. This position serves as first-line staff, greeting department guests and answering the phone.




Jasmine McKinney
Administrative Assistant


The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the executive director and provides administrative and departmental support. This position assists in the oversight of the Multicultural Advisory Board, a volunteer committee and also oversees special projects as assigned. This position serves as first-line staff, greeting department guests and answering the phone.
