Virginia Technical Institute offers hands-on learning opportunities

Opportunities for employment abound because of the new connection between Liberty University and Virginia Technical Institute in Altavista, Va.

Students are now able to earn either an associate or bachelor’s degree from Liberty University while simultaneously completing trade training in the construction fields. Hands-on training within high-demand employment areas, including plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, HVAC and masonry, is also available.

Upon completing these for-credit undergraduate trade courses, students will be recognized for their accomplishment through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), the construction industry’s most recognized national accrediting body. These courses are not only excellent for individuals seeking full- or part-time employment in the skilled trades, but also those considering cross-cultural missions and those wishing to expand their personal skill set for everyday living.

As one student explained, “I have decided to pursue a license in the electrical trade to fulfill my dreams of one day owning a small business, making America a better place, and of doing something that I love.”

Lance McClure, Director of Technical Studies at Liberty University said, “I think it is wise to have a skill set that will always be in demand. While students may have plans for what they believe they are supposed to do after college, it is always prudent to have a backup plan.”
