Liberty employees recognized at luncheon

Liberty University honored more than 150 employees at the Employee Milestone Luncheon on Thursday, July 21 in the Williams Stadium club pavilion.

Jerry Falwell JrEmployees were recognized for their years of service to the university, starting with five years and then every subsequent five-year increment. Liberty honored three employees who have been with Liberty and its related ministries for 35 years.

Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. attended the luncheon with his wife, Becki.

“Every one of you is part of something that is completely unique in the world here at Liberty,” he told the crowd. “We have the opportunity to become the first Christian college to ever become prominent academically, athletically (NCAA sports), financially — to actually build an endowment … we’re becoming for evangelical Christians what Notre Dame is for Catholics. … Everything that every one of you do every day is part of what makes that possible and we don’t take that lightly.”

Falwell said Liberty has adopted a slogan for all faculty and staff: “Your job doesn’t change lives. You do.” He said he appreciates all the extra effort required as Liberty continues its rapid growth.

“Every day I look around here, I just don’t see how you are able to keep up with everything we’re doing. When you’re growing fast, it’s a lot more work for you guys in every department. … Your commitment to Christian education, training Champions for Christ, we know that’s why you’re all here and we thank you all for it. The results of what you’re doing here you may not even see until eternity, but I can promise you it’s making a difference in students’ lives, in their family’s lives, and it’s something you can’t do in any other place.”
