Liberty University Head Football Coach Turner Gill increased the Flames’ first-ever FBS signing class to a total of 27 recruits with Wednesday’s announcement of eight new commitments on National Signing Day.
The Flames’ Football program will enter its first season of competition at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level after transitioning from Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) status beginning last fall. It will open its 2018 season against Old Dominion University on Sept. 1 at Williams Stadium, which is currently undergoing a major expansion.
The release of Gill’s seventh signing class at Liberty began in December during the NCAA’s new early signing period. On Dec. 20, Gill announced the signing of 19 players, including 14 high school standouts and five junior college transfers.
On Wednesday, Gill completed this year’s signing class with eight additional newcomers. The group includes one mid-year enrollee — Johnny Huntley, a wide receiver from the University of Colorado who is already on campus — and seven additional new players.
Liberty’s first-ever FBS recruiting class includes 15 players who are two- or three-star-ranked recruits by Rivals.com and 247Sports.com. The rankings are the highest in program history.
