Liberty Paintball Complex hosts NCPA tournament

Liberty University’s paintball team sponsored the Liberty Open on Saturday, the first National Collegiate Paintball Association event to be held on a college campus.

The NCPA Class AA Tournament took place on the recently updated Liberty University Paintball Complex and is the largest tournament this season, featuring 20 teams from 15 colleges and universities.

Liberty had four teams compete, with three of the four finishing in the top four in preliminary rounds. The Liberty Flames Red team (Brian Davidson, Chris Jenkins, Ben Whitlock, Jason Leggett and Will Hatten) won second place.

Navy took first place, while the University of Virginia took third and East Tennessee State University placed fourth. Other teams competing included Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of North Carolina-Wilmington, Penn State, Maryland, Towson, Temple, Eastern Kentucky University, James Madison University, Buffalo and SUNY Suffolk.

Liberty Paintball started in 2005 and is now a club sport.

“Liberty University is consistently on the forefront of exciting innovations. Holding this historic tournament on our campus reinforces the university’s commitment to students,” said head coach Todd Hoglund. “I am proud to coach a great group of paintball players that are striving to be Champions for Christ.”

Paintball is just one facet of Liberty’s Club Sports Department. For more information about Liberty Paintball, go to www.lupaintball.com.
