Campus Church sees record number of baptisms

126 students baptized during Campus Church

At Liberty University’s Campus Church service on Wednesday, campus pastors and leaders baptized 126 students, the largest amount of baptisms at one time in the history of the weekly service.

“In the history of Liberty University, 50 is the maximum number of students that have ever been baptized in one night,” campus pastor Clayton King said at the start of the service. “We’re telling you tonight that this is historic, not to boast in numbers, but to rejoice in a God who counts things that matter.”

Students were baptized two at a time (one on each side of the stage) while the Liberty Campus Band led the crowd in a worship service. About 3,500 students attended. Liberty holds a baptism service at the start of every semester.

“Tonight, we don’t rejoice just because a lot of people are being baptized. We rejoice that their names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and Jesus Christ is receiving the glory that He deserves, and that these people are following through with this mandate to be publicly connected to Christ in baptism,” King said.

  • Liberty University students gather weekly at Campus Church, part of Liberty’s Office of Spiritual Programs, to study God’s Word together, listen to various speakers, and engage in powerful worship. Campus Church meets each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Thomas Road Baptist Church. View archived services at www.Liberty.edu/Streaming.
