Engineering student wins SEDSI award

Drew Griffith, a Liberty University senior with the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences (SECS), took first place at the 39th annual Southeast Decision Sciences Institute (SEDSI) undergraduate student paper competition held Feb. 18-20 in Charleston, S.C.

Under the faculty advising of SECS Professor Ed Lewis, Griffith submitted an analysis on finding the point of diminishing returns using data from the General Motors website. Over 139 papers were presented at the conference in 46 different sessions.

“It was a really good experience doing an analysis and writing a paper about it,” Griffith said. “It was a good feeling getting my name out there, and a good experience overall.”

SEDSI is the southern member of the Decision Sciences Institute, a professional organization of academicians and practitioners interested in the application of quantitative and behavioral methods to the problems of society.

Established in fall 2007, the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences is Liberty’s newest school and offers degrees in electrical, computer, software and industrial engineering and an intel minor that accompanies the electrical and software concentrations.
