Stephen Strang, founder of leading Christian magazine Charisma, visits campus

Stephen Strang, founder of Charisma, a leading Christian magazine, visited the Liberty University campus Thursday.

He met with LU Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and discussed the state of the university, its vision and plans for the future.

“I wanted to connect with Jerry Jr. and offer to cooperate any way we could, talk about the things we believe in common and to learn more about what’s going on here,” he said. “I’m familiar with it [LU] from a distance, but it’s interesting to come here and see how it’s growing and expanding.”

Strang, an award-winning journalist, founded Charisma in 1975. He is also president and CEO of Strang Communications, which along with the magazine also publishes books. The firm, headquartered near Orlando, Fla., has had several books make the New York Times Bestsellers list, including “Jerusalem Countdown” by the Rev. John Hagee and “The Maker’s Diet,” by Jordan Rubin.

Strang said Liberty University, Thomas Road Baptist Church and the late Dr. Jerry Falwell have had a presence in Charisma several times.

Strang has been to Liberty before to interview Falwell Sr. He has also interacted with him at political events in Washington, D.C.

Before Thursday, Strang’s last visit at LU was for Falwell’s funeral and he wrote a column about Falwell’s legacy afterward. Read Strang’s column at www.charismamag.com/display.php?id=15334.
