Johnnie Moore gives message on making the right decisions

The Bible teaches us that God uses the underdogs of life to accomplish great and mighty things for His glory. One of the greatest examples of this is King David. Speaking to thousands of students during Wednesday’s convocation, Liberty University Campus Pastor Johnnie Moore used David’s account to teach a valuable life lesson.

“There was no more of an unexpected leader than this nomad shepherd boy, who was never meant or believed to be king,” Moore said emphatically. “Never in all of history has there been someone, who God has lifted from such a low place and exalted to such prominence.”

At the pinnacle of his prominence, David’s kingdom flourished. Having everything he needed, he became blindsided by his wealth and failed to foresee the potential danger ahead of him.

“Sometimes in your highest successes you are most vulnerable to your greatest failures,” Moore stated.

Second Samuel 11 notes David’s stumbling and the choices he made leading up to his affair with Bathsheba. During a time when kings go to war, David chose to remain in his palace. From his roof, he spotted a woman glowing with physical beauty. Allowing his desires to take control, David sent for her.

When Bathsheba became pregnant by the king, he immediately attempted to mask his mistake, resulting in a downward spiral of poor choices.

“I’m not saying that every bad decision is going to have such a severe domino effect, but what I am saying is you never know,” Moore said. “There is always a path that leads to the place you never expected.”

After noting David’s errors, Moore urged students in the midst of a challenging semester to take their time at Liberty seriously and proceed with caution when making decisions, even those that seem harmless.

“If you keep Jesus in the center and you don’t make the mistakes of David … then you won’t suffer. You can just move ahead. God will help you with your decisions.”
