Flames to host Gardner-Webb this Saturday

With two games remaining in this season of “Unfinished Business,” the Liberty University football team is pushing toward the playoffs. Last week, the Flames brought home their second consecutive Big South Conference title with a 38-26 victory over VMI. Sitting at 8-2, Liberty returns to Williams Stadium this Saturday to take on the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs.

The Flames are currently listed at No. 22 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 24 in the Sports Network rankings. Heading into this week’s match-up, head coach Danny Rocco remains hopeful of making the 16-team tournament.

I think our players still have very high hopes and expectations that we have an opportunity to play at the end of the season in the postseason,” Rocco told the local media on Tuesday. “Needless to say, the only thing that we can do is win Saturday night, get ourselves to 9-2 and then find a way to win the following week to put ourselves at 10-2 to give us a legitimate résumé in terms of the kind of season you need to have to get a bid in the postseason.”

Kickoff for Liberty’s battle with the Bulldogs is slated for 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by visiting the Flames Ticket Office located at the Williams Football Operations Center, by calling (434) 582-SEAT or by ordering online at libertyflames.com. Fans are encouraged to wear red as they root for the Liberty Flames.
