Clayton King speaks for Spiritual Emphasis Week

Popular youth evangelist and musician Clayton King was the guest speaker for Liberty University’s Spiritual Emphasis Week. He spoke in Wednesday and Friday convocations.

On Wednesday, he opened with a challenge to students to ask themselves who is Lord in their lives. Citing 2 Corinthians 8, he asked the crowd who is Lord when they find themselves without money.

“There is nothing in Scripture that tells you if you follow Jesus you will always be rich and have money in the bank,” King said. “You get one thing when you come to Jesus — Jesus. He is the treasure.”
King said money gives a sense of stability and security but then emphasized that our stability and security is really in the hands of God.

He then asked students who is Lord when God seems distant. Citing Job 1:20, King said despite the fact everything was taken away from Job, he still fell on his face and worshipped God.

King concluded with asking the crowd, “Who is Lord when you are suffering?”

Citing 1 Peter 3:13-17, he used the story of how Peter suffered in crucifixion to emphasize that no matter what happens, Christians should set apart the Lord as Christ in their hearts.

“Either Jesus is Lord or you are Lord,” King said. “You cannot save yourself, die on the cross and be raised from the dead. If you are your own Lord, you are doomed. Make Jesus your Lord.”

At Friday’s convocation, he gave a message to students about having a passion for Christ.

“Passion is a willingness to endure pain and suffering,” King said. “How much are you willing to endure because of Christ?”
Citing John 11:16 which says, “Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, ‘Let us also go, that we may die with him,’” King used the example of Thomas endangering himself for Christ to demonstrate that Christians should have a willingness to do the same.

King concluded his message encouraging students to find a passion and a consistent daily life with Christ.

King is the founder and president of Crossroads Worldwide, a non-profit, interdenominational ministry designed to preach the Gospel, make disciples, support youth and college leaders and build a community among believers. The ministry now includes summer camps, winter conferences, ministry summits, ministry forums and mission trips.

King is also the author of three books, including “The Beauty and the Mystery,” “Love Dating and Other Insanities: Relationships without Regret” and “Journals of a Madman,” an autobiography covering the first 25 years of his life. King has also recorded eight records under the bands Monogamous Fish and Adam’s Housecat. His records include several original songs as well as praise and worship music.
