Liberty University Online breaks the 30K mark

Monday afternoon a rare hush fell over the Liberty University Online offices as staff fled their cubicles to celebrate another major milestone — 30,000 online students — reached Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. and Vice Chancellor Ron Godwin joined Vice President of Enrollment Management, Chris Johnson, and LUO’s Executive Director, John Donges, to commemorate the occasion.

“The phenomenal growth of Liberty University Online in these difficult economic times is a testament to the quality of the program and the leadership of Chris Johnson, John Donges and the entire faculty and staff of Liberty University Online,” said Chancellor Falwell. “The program continues to be ranked among the best in the country because academics have not been sacrificed in order to achieve growth. Congratulations to Liberty University Online in reaching this important milestone!”

It was less than 10 months ago, in March of 2008, that the school reached 25,000 students and issued a plaque marking the event. Yesterday that same plaque was unveiled, this time with the 30,000 plate added.

“Enrolling 30,000 students is a momentous occasion for the online division,” said Donges. “Beyond the great growth that LUO is experiencing is the increasingly stronger student retention each year.”
