Alumnus speaks at Friday’s convocation

Pastor Chris Williamson, who graduated from LU about 19 years ago, spoke at Friday’s convocation service in the Vines Center. Williamson is currently the head pastor at Strong Tower Bible Church in Franklin, Tenn.

“The Bible often times goes out of its way to explain what people looked like, and my question is why did God make so many different kinds of people?” Williamson asked the crowd.

Although many people do not fall into the realm of what magazines and television call beautiful, God made every individual exactly the way that they are for a reason, Williamson said.

“In Isaiah Chapter 43, verse 7 it says ‘Everyone who was called by my name whom I have created for my Glory, I have formed them, yes, I have made them,’” Williamson read.

In order to praise God and give glory to God we must love ourselves and realize how unique and special we are as individuals, he said.

“If I despise how I’m made then I’m despising my Maker,” Williamson said. “You are just one accident away from the outward being disfigured, but the beauty of the heart, 1 Peter Chapter 3 says, is unfailing.”

Williamson encouraged students to look deeper in their relationships than the person’s exterior. He also told students that their confidence should come from God’s deep love for them.
