Former Super Bowl champion Don Davis to speak Nov. 1

Don Davis, two-time Super Bowl champion, will be speaking at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Liberty University’s Williams Stadium.

Davis spent 11 years in the NFL playing for the St. Louis Rams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the New England Patriots. He later served as a strength coach and chaplain for the Patriots and is currently a player advocate for the National Football League Association in Washington, D.C.

The event is being sponsored by Liberty’s Psychology Department and the Department of Health Sciences. It is free and open to the public and will take place on the club level of the stadium tower.

“He’s coming to speak perseverance and motivation, tied in with sports psychology,” said event organizer Rebecca Patchett.

She said his message is applicable to everyone, from football and Patriots fans to those with an interest in psychology.

The event was organized by Patchett and department chair Dr. Daniel Logan. Logan met Davis at a previous event in South Florida and was impressed by his story and current ministry.

Davis was cut from two teams as a NFL free agent before being picked up by the New Orleans Saints in 1996. He went on to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1998-2000 under head coach Tony Dungy, a devout Christian.

In 1999, Davis decided to give his life to the Lord. He served as a full-time starter for the St. Louis Rams in 2001 before signing with the New England Patriots. He won two Super Bowl rings in 2003 and 2004 with the team.

After retiring from the NFL in 2007, he became the Director of NFL Programs for Pro Athletes Outreach, an organization that offers Christ-centered programs and conferences for professional athletes, coaches and their families to help them in their ministry.

Davis will be taking questions and signing autographs after his speech.

Light refreshments, including coffee and a cupcake bar, will be served at the beginning of the event.
