Students attend See You at the Pole rally

More than 2,000 Liberty University students gathered in front of Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center for the annual See You at the Pole (SYATP) rally on Sept. 27, the night before thousands of students across the country met at their schools’ flagpoles to pray.

Liberty’s rally is one of the largest SYATP gatherings globally.

SYATP rallies started in 1990 when 10 students desired to pray for their high school in Texas. Now millions of students gather around the world on the fourth Wednesday in September. Liberty has participated in the event since 1990.

Six years ago, Liberty started the unique tradition of holding SYATP the night before in order to pray for the students who attend rallies nationwide the next morning.

“The event started as a response to pray for all of the high school students and friends of students who are now at college at Liberty. We want to pray for SYATP before it happens the next morning as a pre-rally,” campus pastor Michael Miller said.

Liberty students split up into groups representing their home states or countries to pray for their neighbors and for local needs.  All 50 states and 10 countries were represented.

The hour opened with worship from the Campus Praise Band as students prepared their hearts to petition the Lord. Students from the Student Government Association and Office of Student Leadership guided prayer for government, school athletics, teachers, administration, youth pastors, school outreach, and salvation of friends and families back home.
