Liberty Law ranks No. 7 in America for bar passage rates

Founded in 2004, program lands in top 10 alongside Ivy League law schools according to the ABA

The American Bar Association just released bar passage data for 2018 that shows Liberty University School of Law has placed No. 7 in the nation out of 203 schools.

The bar exam is the required test that law school graduates must pass if they are to be licensed to practice law in a specific state.

Several of the top 10 schools are in the Ivy League, putting Liberty Law in rarefied company. Nationally, Liberty also placed the highest out of all of the law schools in Virginia, surpassing University of Virginia School of Law and William & Mary Law School.

Liberty Law exists to equip future leaders in law with a superior legal education in fidelity to the Christian faith expressed through the Holy Scriptures.

In just 15 years since its founding, Liberty Law has prospered and bar passage rates have excelled. This could not be done without the hard work of the students, the commitment of the faculty, and the school’s dedication to training Christian lawyers who will serve God.

President Jerry Falwell expressed his pride in the law school and its students.

“As a licensed attorney in Virginia, I recognize the importance that bar passage rates have on the success of a law school in the competitive academic environment,” he said. “I am so proud of Liberty Law and its students. Even as my own alma mater, the University of Virginia School of Law, again performed extremely well on this list, I’m proud to see that Liberty edged UVA out by one spot in the national rankings. Liberty Law is an integral part of the success at Liberty University as a whole, and I congratulate Dean Faulkner, Rena Lindevaldsen and the entire faculty on achieving this important milestone.”

Keith Faulkner, dean of Liberty Law, said, “I could not be happier for our graduates and entire law school community. The Class of 2018 worked very hard studying countless hours and sacrificing much to achieve this result. The 2018 Liberty Law graduates took 15 bar examinations across the nation, including Virginia, and achieved a 100 percent passage rate in 14 jurisdictions proving that a legal education at Liberty can take you anywhere. Our dedicated faculty pour into our students and graduates inside and outside of the classroom, and we are blessed with a president and provost dedicated to the success of the law school. It is truly an honor to serve this law school as dean and to be a part of such a dynamic university.”

Scott Hicks, Liberty University provost, stated, “It is an honor to have our students excel in the ranks of America’s top law schools. There is no doubt that this comes as result of the hard work and commitment of our students and Liberty Law, which is indicative of the commitment and quality of education at Liberty. We are proud of our students and the Law School team.”
