ESPN host Sam Ponder, musicians Keith and Kristyn Getty to speak in Convocation

Upcoming guests at Liberty University’s Convocation include Liberty alumna and ESPN “Sunday NFL Countdown” host Sam Ponder and modern hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty.

Ponder (’09) will speak on Friday, Sept. 29, during College For A Weekend (CFAW). More than 2,000 high school students, potential transfer students, and their families will take part in Convocation as part of their CFAW experience.

In March, ESPN announced that Ponder would host the long-running Sunday morning NFL pregame show, replacing sports broadcasting legend Chris Berman. She has also worked as a contributor to “College GameDay.”

On Monday, Oct. 2, Keith and Kristyn Getty will be sharing their passion for Jesus and the impact that they have made in the music world. The couple’s most popular song, “In Christ Alone,” has held the No. 1 position of most-frequently sung songs in United Kingdom churches for the last nine years. They will be performing a special concert on Liberty’s campus that night, sponsored by Student Activities.

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, Liberty will hold Alternative Convocations, in which individual schools and departments host their own gatherings at separate locations. Students will be notified by their academic programs if and where they will need to attend.

No Convocation will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, due to Fall Break.

As previously announced, comedian and Grammy Award nominee Jeff Foxworthy will be speaking in Convocation on Wednesday as part of Global Focus Week, helping to discuss the new G5 initiative.

A 10-day Convocation schedule is announced each Monday.
