Liberty University’s Division I men’s hockey team skated to the No. 2 spot on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Night on Saturday with a spectacular goal by freshman forward Quinn Ryan in the Flames’ 10-0 rout of Rutgers at the LaHaye Ice Center.
Ryan completed his hat trick in amazing fashion midway through the second period. Skating from left to right behind the Ice Knights’ net, Ryan scooped the puck up onto the tape of his stick and slung a wraparound shot lacrosse-style over the shoulder of goalie Christopher Marsillo into the top right corner of the cage.
“That’s probably the nicest goal I’ve seen at Liberty since I’ve been involved,” Flames 17th-year Head Coach Kirk Handy said.
The SportsCenter accolade was the second this month for a Flames team. Junior A.C. Reid’s three-point buzzer beater in the men’s basketball game against Radford on Saturday, Feb. 4, landed on the SportsCenter’s “Must See Finishes” segment.
