Liberty Financial Aid administrator has article published

An article written by Dr. Robert Ritz, Liberty University’s executive director of Financial Aid, was recently published in the financial magazine Student Aid Transcript. The article, “Recession and Professional Judgment,” focuses on the current situation for many college students regarding their increased need for financial support based on the current job market and what universities can do to offset that need.

Ritz illustrates Liberty’s efforts to assist the increased financial needs of families with currently enrolled students. Written from the perspective of a financial aid administrator and directed toward financial aid administrators, the article offers solutions for overcoming collegiate finance challenges.

The article includes money saving tips for struggling students, statistics regarding recent financial developments and information that describes many of the technical aspects of financial aid.

Liberty has been working with the Financial Aid Office to assist students with receiving the most financial assistance possible. In the article, Ritz references how Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. authorized the awarding of an additional $400,000 of institutional aid for the 2009-10 academic year, and how the Financial Aid Office provides “professional judgment awareness training to help staff from other areas become more aware of the basic criteria for professional judgments in order to help identify struggling students.”

“One of the most rewarding aspects of being a financial aid administrator,” said Ritz, “is helping students and their families meet a legitimate need.”
