The Liberty University men’s and women’s squads both captured team titles in dominating fashion at the 2016 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships, which concluded Saturday at Virginia Tech’s Rector Field House.
The Flames’ men racked up 258 points, outdistancing runner-up High Point (148 points) for their largest margin of victory at this meet since 2002. Liberty, which has won a total of 19 Big South Indoor titles, extends the longest conference championship streak in NCAA Division I men’s indoor track & field.
Meanwhile, the Lady Flames scored 178.5 points, putting them well in front of three-time defending champion Coastal Carolina (109 points) for their first indoor title since 2012 and 11th overall. It marked Liberty’s largest margin of victory in meet history.
Head Coach Brant Tolsma won his 60th Big South Coach of the Year award during his 30-year career with the Flames. He has now guided Liberty to a total of 87 Big South team championships.
