LFSN ‘Game On’ show wins College Sports Media Award

LFSN reporters Alan York and Nick Pierce provided in-depth analysis of Flames Head Coach Turner Gill’s signing class during the National Signing Day special that aired Feb. 5.

The Liberty Flames Signing Day Special, which was presented by the LFSN “Game On” show, was recognized as an award winner at Thursday night’s 2015 College Sports Media Awards.

The 70-minute football signing day special, which was streamed live on ESPN3 and the Liberty Flames Athletics YouTube account on Feb. 5, was named the award winner for the Collegiate Athletics portion of the Outstanding Live Studio/Remote Hosted Programming category.

“We are thrilled and excited to have won this College Sports Media Award,” said Jeff Barber, Liberty’s Director of Athletics. “Competing against other major colleges in this category was certainly a challenge, but LFSN, as always, did a tremendous job with their coverage of this event.”

This marked the second time the Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) had submitted videos for the annual contest. Last year, LFSN had three videos receive honorable mention recognition and one finalist. Matt Byrd, Liberty’s streaming producer, developed and produced the National Signing Day special.

“I’m proud of the team’s commitment to excellent programming, down to every detail of the broadcast — from the on-air talent to the people running the play-back devices,” said Russ Martin, Liberty’s executive producer of broadcast communications. “We had probably 15 people involved in the production, a combination of professionals and students involved in technical roles, including camera operators and producers. That team’s committed to excellence and now it’s not only being recognized locally, but also on a national level.”
