National Civil War Chaplains Museum plans grand opening

These communion dishes and chaplain’s robe are a few of the artifacts housed in the National Civil War Chaplains Museum on the Liberty University campus.

The grand opening of the National Civil War Chaplain’s Museum on the Liberty University campus will take place on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m.

The museum, originally housed in DeMoss Hall — Liberty’s main academic building — relocated to its new location next to Doc’s Diner on Campus East last fall. The museum exists to educate the public on the role of chaplains, priests, rabbis and religious organizations in the Civil War, as well as to provide a research facility for those studying Civil War chaplaincy. Artifacts include items from both Confederate and Union chaplains.

Parking has been reserved near the entrance to the museum.
