Flames Pass system gains recognition in ID card industry

Liberty University students hold Flames Pass student ID cards.Liberty University Card Services was recently acknowledged in an October article by CR80 News, a prominent news source for the identification industry, for its innovative student ID (Flames Pass) system. The article highlighted Liberty’s streamlined photo submission application, developed by the university’s IT development team.

“Having Liberty University recognized by this organization demonstrates our prowess in offering our students cutting-edge services that are being sought after nationwide by other universities,” said Deborah Nightingale, director of Card Services. “The article is a testament to our goal of providing optimal customer service.”

Liberty reworked the Flames Pass in 2012, starting with overhauling the online photo submission system.  The program now boasts 24-hour customer service, providing convenience for students and alleviation of traffic to the Card Services office. The Flames Pass ID serves more than 6,300 faculty and staff, as well as over 100,000 students, both resident and online. Through the photo upload application alone Liberty has seen a 16-percent increase in card requests this fall compared with last year.

Liberty also developed a program that allows students to order cards online and have them delivered to their homes before they arrive on campus to begin classes.

This year, Card Services began using the MiFare system, which allows students to tap cards for transactions, making service at the Reber-Thomas Dining Hall more efficient and convenient.

Cardholders can also load their Flames Pass with Flames Cash, which allows students to make purchases at several campus and local merchants, sometimes at a discount.
