RNC staffer addresses government students

Sean Spicer, communications director for the Republican National Committee, spoke to students from Liberty University’s Helms School of Government on Wednesday about what he has learned during his career in politics.

Sean Spicer, RNC communications director, speaks at Liberty University's Helms School of Government.Spicer, a seasoned veteran in public policy, told students at a special Convocation to pay attention to details, to be prepared, and above all to focus on doing what is right as they prepare to seek jobs in the nation’s capital.

“You should feel right about everything you do. If the vote is wrong, it’s wrong. If the vote is right, it’s right,” Spicer said.

He urged the students to live up to the positive reputations of Liberty alumni working in Washington, D.C., such as Allison Howard (’11), communications director at Concerned Women for America, who are impacting the culture since graduating from the world’s largest Christian university.

“When you look at the work ethic of (Liberty’s graduates) who have made it, every one of them is known for being hard-working,” Spicer said. “(That) track record … is all over this place.”

Spicer said that the conservative education offered at Liberty’s Helms School of Government is a “breath of fresh air.”

“It allows people to challenge what would be the status quo of a typical education and give them what is, in a lot of ways, the reality of life,” he said.
