Darius McGhee to participate in pre-Final Four shooting contests in Houston

Liberty University Men’s Basketball standout guard Darius McGhee has been selected to the TaxAct Men’s 3-Point Championship roster for the 34th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston March 30, leading up to the NCAA Final Four games in Houston on April 1. The event will air live on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. EST.

McGhee has also been invited to compete in the State Farm College Team Skills and 3X3U Championships March 29 at 7:30 p.m. EST, also taking place in Houston.

McGhee finished his time as a Flame No. 2 all-time in NCAA history in made three-pointers with 528 and sunk a nation-high 162 baskets behind the arc in the 2022-2023 campaign. He also concluded his time at Liberty with a program-record 2,685 points.

The guard won three consecutive ASUN Player of the Year awards (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23) and was an honorable mention to the 2022-23 Associated Press All America men’s basketball team.

The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships invites the nation’s elite men’s and women’s college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and 3-point shooting bragging rights. The night features the King’s Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship, the TaxAct Men’s 3-Point Championship, the Celsius Women’s 3-Point Championship and the Applebee’s Team Shootout. The winners of the men’s and women’s 3-Point competitions will then compete in the Rocket Mortgage Battle of the Champions.

For nearly 35 years, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, including Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Bobby Hurley, Michael Finley, Denzel Valentine, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, Kristi Toliver, Tiffany Hayes and Ariel Atkins.

A new event this year, the State Farm College Team Skills & 3X3U Championships will feature a dynamic roster of graduating college senior competing in a variety of competitions including team shootouts, skills relays and 3×3 basketball.

Intersport will stage three events during college basketball’s most exciting weekend at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston, which it will dub Hoops House, providing ample programming for fans near and far in advance of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Final Four.
