Greg Ham and Chaz Corzine, two professionals in the music industry, made an appearance in a School of Business classroom Tuesday afternoon to talk with students about the numerous business and marketing job opportunities within music and entertainment.

“There are far more jobs in music on the business side than there are on the performing side,” Corzine said to a classroom of 50. “There are only a few people who can perform. There are a lot of us who can do music business.”

In his extensive 30-year career, Ham has worked with talents such as ColdPlay, Janet Jackson, KT Tunstall, Michael W. Smith, and many more. He has served as president of Forefront Records and as executive vice president of business development for EMI CMG worldwide.

Corzine has also worked with Michael W. Smith as well as Amy Grant and author Frank Peretti. He has led endorsement and sponsorship deals for his clients, sold film rights, represented multiple recording and book deals, and seen his artists win Grammys, American Music Awards, Dove Awards, Gold Medallion Awards, and many other accolades.

Ham and Corzine have worked in the industry long enough to see cassettes and CDs take a back seat to downloadable and streaming content. During the 1-hour class time slot, Ham and Corzine walked students through the process of how artists monetize their content.

“There’s a lot of impact to happen and a lot of money to be made in this industry,” Ham said.

Both guests spoke from a faith-based perspective, advising students to never compromise their faith for their careers.

“The opportunities available to you here at Liberty are exceptional,” Corzine added. “Honoring Christ in all you do, whether you’re an accountant at a department store, working in the music business, or in the Church, doing that is really the only thing that brings lasting satisfaction.”

Their visit coincided with another special guest to the university, Michael W. Smith, who also spent time with students in classes this week as part of his work with Liberty’s Michael W. Smith Center for Commercial Music. (Read more about Smith’s visit with music students.)
