Alumnus collects record number of votes in Lynchburg City Council race

Two-time Liberty University graduate Chris Faraldi (’17, ’19) garnered the most votes ever recorded — 1,567 — for a Ward IV Lynchburg City Council seat on May 19. He will replace retiring member Turner Perrow, who, along with conservative Congressman Ben Cline (R-6th), endorsed Faraldi earlier this year.

Faraldi, 25, will begin his four-year term in July.

“It was an experience I will never forget,” Faraldi said of his rainy-day victory over opponent Larry Jones. “The campaign was humbling, exhilarating, and taxing, but all worthwhile after the results.”

Ward IV snakes through Lynchburg’s center, occupying popular paths like Old Forest Road, Perrymont Avenue, and Thomas Road. The region spans roughly 13 square miles.

In his new role, Faraldi hopes to continue his predecessor’s legacy by implementing lower taxes, lower spending, and prioritizing safety personnel, along with other conservative fiscal responsibilities.

“I really want to continue to bring the representation Councilman Turner Perrow has provided for the past 12 years, which is of the conservative mindset,” he said. “But I also want to offer a different voice on Council, one that really speaks to young conservative voices in Lynchburg that I don’t feel have really been represented. I think I can offer that voice to Council and offer different, fresh, new solutions for the city of Lynchburg. … That’s what I’m most excited about: to offer the young conservative thought on Council in a fresh, new way.”

Faraldi’s professional experience ranges from presidential campaigns and congressional offices, to nonprofits and private organizations. He has worked under Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), former United States Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), and other notable conservative voices.

Faraldi received a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on government and pastoral leadership in 2017. Then, he capped his education with a Master of Arts in executive leadership through Liberty’s School of Business.

“Liberty was used by the Lord in the most incredible ways,” he said. “It was the relationships and friendships born there that really springboarded me into the career I have today. The Lord used Liberty to grow me personally, spiritually, and professionally. I can’t thank the Lord enough for opening up those opportunities. It wouldn’t have been possible without the Lord and Liberty. I’m honored to be a part of the Liberty family in this way and continue to serve.”
