The Need for Well-Prepared Teachers Keeps Growing

A 2016 study by the Learning Policy Institute notes that 8% of American teachers have left the profession over the last ten years — and more than 200,000 teachers continue to leave each year. Beginning teachers with little or no preparation are 2 ½ times more likely to leave the classroom after one year, compared to their well-prepared peers.*

Good preparation makes a difference.

And it’s worth investing in. According to PayScale.com, elementary teachers can expect to make $39,932 to $55,568 with a Master of Arts in Education degree, while those who hold a bachelor's degree make $31,249 to $43,499 — a difference of about 25%.

A survey by the Pew Research Center placed teachers just behind soldiers as individuals who “contribute the most to society’s well-being.” If our future is in the hands of the next generation — and there are fewer teachers in the classroom than ever before — who will be guiding those hands?

Who will make sure that today’s students are well prepared to thrive in tomorrow’s society?
