Military Degree Plans

Liberty University continues a long tradition of making education accessible and degree completion as easy as possible for military and veteran students. With transfer-friendly policies, and special academic benefits available to military students on their degree plan, Liberty University remains committed to supporting our nation’s military in their educational pursuit.

Academic Benefits

Liberty University offers the following academic benefits to military students enrolled at the undergraduate level. Military students include current service members, veterans with honorable/general discharge, and military spouses of service members or veterans. To receive these benefits please be sure to submit documentation verifying your military status. These academic benefits are applicable to catalog years that have specific requirements and credit hours that would warrant these waivers.

2017-2018 catalog year moving forward:

  • Up to 75% of the degree requirements may be transferred; a minimum of 25% of the degree requirements are required to be taken through Liberty University
  • A minimum of one course in the major is required to be taken at Liberty University. All other major course requirements can be fulfilled via transfer credit, if applicable. A minimum of 60 credit hours are required at the Associate level and a minimum of 120 credit hours at the Bachelor level through a combination of institutional and/or transfer credit
  • No final year or final semester residency requirement

Additionally, undergraduate military students who are transferring in a certain number of credit hours may qualify for additional course waivers:

  • Non-Religion degrees: 12 hours in religion are typically required at the Associate and Bachelor levels. Waivers are available for:
    • RLGN 104 (4 hours) – waived for students who transfer in 45 hours or more
    • THEO 104 (4 hours) – waived for students who transfer in 60 hours or more
  • Religion degrees: 12 hours are typically required at the Associate and Bachelor level. Waivers are available for:
    • RLGN 105 (2 hours) – waived for students who transfer in 45 hours or more
    • EVAN 101 (2 hours) – waived for students who transfer in 45 hours or more
    • THEO 201 (2 hours) – waived for students who transfer in 60 hours or more
    • THEO 202 (2 hours) – waived for students who transfer in 60 hours or more

The Process

To ensure your degree plan has been finalized and all of the academic benefits have been applied, make sure the following steps have been completed.

  • Submit all of your official college transcripts. These will be needed for your official acceptance and to conduct an official evaluation of transfer credit on your degree plan. If you are not sure this has been completed, you may contact an Admissions Counselor to find out where you are in this process.

  • Submit your military verification documents to the Office of Military Affairs.

Special Note for TA Students: If you need a degree plan for your Tuition Assistance, you may access your Degree Completion Plan Audit (DCPA) in your ASIST account, or you may contact mildcp@liberty.edu to request a signed copy of the DCPA.

Graduation Requirements

There are several requirements for graduation of which you should be aware:

  • One course in the major must be completed through Liberty
  • 25% of the degree must be completed through Liberty (varies per degree)
  • In a B.S. degree, the student must complete at least 30 upper-level credit hours (can include transfer and institution courses)
  • Minimum of 2.0 GPA (some degrees may require higher)
  • Grades of “C” or higher in all upper-level courses in the student’s major (some degrees require a “C” or higher in all courses in the major)
