Reach New Heights in the Aviation Field
In just 16 years, Liberty's School of Aeronautics has grown from just four students to over 3,600 worldwide. In 2013, we introduced the Flight Training Affiliate (FTA) program, which allows students to complete their flight training locally where it's convenient for them. Since then, we have expanded to over 88 locations nationwide. Liberty's program is now one of the largest collegiate aeronautical flight programs in North America.
You can be a part of this exciting, rapidly-growing program and reach new heights in your aviation career. Here are some benefits our program provides:
High School Dual Enrollment
Start taking your academics with us online while you’re in high school so you can progress straight into flight training upon obtaining your high school diploma.
Reduced ATP Program
Our program has been approved by the FAA to reduce the required hours for your ATP license from 1,500 to just 1,000.
Liberty's B.S. in Aviation program costs less than most residential non-flight bachelor's degrees with overall tuition costs falling between $22,500-46,800.
Additional Training Options
While not required for graduation, you can also obtain your Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII), Multi-Engine Rating (ME), and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) licenses.
During my internship with United Airlines, I flew to Hong Kong in the jump seat of the 747 and traveled to Rome, Vancouver, Honolulu, Cancun, and Cabo San Lucas… I will never forget the relationships and the experiences I built during my internship!

The caliber of students coming out of the program is outstanding… It is almost a guarantee if a student comes out of Liberty that they are exactly the type of employee we are looking for.

BENEFITS OF LIBERTY'S AVIATION PROGRAM
Take the next step toward advancing your aviation knowledge, skill, and career.
Flight Training Affiliates
Liberty partners with independent flight schools across the nation so that you can access affordable, hands-on training locally while you take your online classes.
We currently have over 88 Flight Training Affiliates (FTAs) nationwide. If you do not have previous flight experience, we recommend you start taking flying courses within your first semester of starting with us. That means it's critical you are able to travel to a nearby FTA for flight courses.
Already a Pilot?
Through our Experience Plus program, you can convert your existing aviation licenses into academic credit. In fact, you can transfer in up to 75% of your undergraduate degree.
You may receive up to 55 credits for your aviation and instructor ratings. If you have flight training experience from the military, you may also be able to earn transfer credit through your military experience.
We also offer a Rotary Transition Pathway (RTP) through our online B.S. in Aviation for students who already hold an FAA Commercial Rotorcraft License with Instrument Rating. For this pathway, you'll need to complete your training with an FTA that is approved for RTP training.
Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) Program:
If you want to work for a commercial airline, you'll need your Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license.
Typically, an ATP license requires 1,500 hours of flight time. However, if you earn both your Instrument and Commercial licenses through Liberty and have 60 hours of other aviation courses, the FAA only requires you to complete 1,000 hours to obtain your ATP license! That gives you 500 hours of your life to spend on quality time with your family, friends, and those closest to you.
Another huge benefit to our R-ATP program is that it lowers the age to be hired by commercial airlines. Currently, an airline requires you to be 23 years old. However, once a student completes the R-ATP program through Liberty, it lowers the age to 21. That means a student could start at Liberty University and a different university at the same time and the student that graduates from Liberty will enter the workforce and be flying two years before the other student.
Liberty has one of the most affordable flight-focused bachelor’s degrees in the nation. Through this program, you’ll have the ability to obtain the following licenses:
- Private Pilot’s License (PPL)
- Instrument Rating (IFR)
- Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL)
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
- Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII)
- Multi-Engine (ME)
- Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI)
While our standard tuition rates are between $22,500-46,800, when combined with flight training overall costs come to $92,500-$116,800. It typically costs around $80,000 just for your licenses to become a pilot with no previous experience. At Embry Riddle, the cost for your licenses and a degree is over $200,000. At Liberty University, you can obtain your licenses and a bachelor’s degree for much lower. And you can use the following to help with financing your degree:
- Federal financial aid, loans, grants, and aviation-specific scholarships
- Military benefits including GI Bill®™ and Yellow Ribbon
- Tuition discounts available for military service members and their spouses, first responders, and other corporate partners
Also, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2019, airline and commercial pilots had an average salary of $121,430,* meaning you’ll be able to earn back the costs of the program quickly and effectively.
