Equipping Families Spiritually for the New School Year

Let’s Go Back to School with Prayer and Purpose!

Amid busy schedules, sports, and syllabi, it’s important to prepare not only academically but also spiritually for the new school year. This article offers encouragement and inspiration you can share with your listeners to help them get ready for the season ahead.

Begin with Prayer

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6

Invite your listeners to cover this new school year in prayer. Whether it’s over breakfast or at the bus stop, prayer sets the tone for peace, protection, and purpose.

We’ve put together a prayer plan for the months of August through May in a downloadable PDF format that you can share on your station’s website.

Plus, here’s a downloadable audio recording of a prayer from a Liberty University mom to share with your listening families as they embark on the new year. (Same prayer with different background music for you to choose from.)

Build Faith into Daily Life

“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home … and when you get up.” — Deuteronomy 6:6–7

Share ideas with your audience for weaving faith into everyday moments, such as morning devotions, memory verses, or worship music during the drive to school. These rhythms build a spiritual foundation that lasts. Encourage your listeners to keep it simple, keep it consistent, and let God’s Word fill their homes.

Speak Truth About Identity

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works …” — Ephesians 2:10

Remind parents and guardians that school pressures are real, but so is the power of God’s Word. Encourage them to declare His Truth over their children every day, no matter what their ages. Let your listeners know: their children are chosen, loved, and called — not because of performance, but because of Jesus.

MINUTE-On-The-MOUNTAIN with Liberty University Chancellor Jonathan Falwell

Fall Features: Back to the Basics

This month’s “Minute on the Mountain” selections will help families refocus on a few foundational themes as they head into the new school year.

Visit our Minute on the Mountain page for more of these 60-second, Scripture-focused messages from Chancellor Falwell, designed to provide practical tools for godly living.

Walk the Journey Together

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

Reassure your listeners that they are never alone in this season. The school year brings both excitement and stress, and God has given us community to share both. Encourage families to stay connected — whether through their local church, a small group, Bible study, or school support network. These relationships provide a place to pray together, share wisdom, and offer strength when days feel overwhelming.
