
Dr. Laurel Shaler will share her journey through traditional and embryo adoption and how this led to her co-authoring “Loving Adopted Children Well: A 5 Loved Languages Approach” with Dr. Gary Chapman. She will also discuss the current research she is facilitating with a team of colleagues, graduates, and students that she began in the fall of 2024. The talk will be followed by a book signing for “Loving Adopted Children Well: A 5 Love Languages Approach.”

Biography
Dr. Laurel Shaler is in her 13th year at Liberty University where she currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Counselor Education and Supervision and as co-director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. She has previously served as a department chair and program director of Professional Counseling and Human Services Counseling at Liberty. Dr. Shaler is a National Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Licensed Social Worker. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision (Regent University) as well as master’s degrees in social work (Florida State University) and theological studies (Liberty University). She and her husband of 20+ years, Nick, live in South Carolina with their three precious children where they are active with their extended family, church, and community.
