President of the Virginia State Bar to Speak

Phillip V. Anderson, President of the Virginia State Bar, will speak at Liberty University School of Law at 2:45 PM on Tuesday, January 17, in the law school’s Student Services Center. Mr. Anderson’s appearance is fourth in the law school’s Speakers’ Forum series of the 2005-2006 academic year. In its second year, the forum is designed to introduce law students to accomplished leaders who serve in a variety of legal positions. The law school welcomes members of the university and legal community to Speakers’ Forum events.
A partner in the Roanoke firm of Frith Anderson & Peake, Mr. Anderson has served on the Virginia State Bar Executive Committee since 2002, and on the Bar Council since 2000. He has been in private practice in Roanoke since 1985, and handles general civil litigation matters concentrated in the areas of professional liability, general casualty, insurance coverage, and commercial litigation.
Mr. Anderson served as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge, Jackson L. Kiser, in the Western District of Virginia. In addition to his trial practice, he regularly provides opinions on insurance coverage issues, and has handled complex litigation involving products liability, transportation and insurance coverage actions. The 67th president of the Virginia State Bar, he also serves in the areas of Ethics and Professionalism on the organization’s Eighth District Disciplinary Committee, where he was Chairman and Secretary from 1993 to 1996; and on the Faculty of the Bar’s Professionalism Course, a mandatory class for all newly-admitted lawyers.
He earned his Juris Doctorate from University of Virginia Law School in 1984 and his undergraduate degree from Hampden-Sydney College in 1980. Active in his community, he has served on the Steering Committee of Hidden Valley High School, where he also served as Founding Member and President of the Athletic Booster Club. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, and serves on the Nominating and Stewardship Committees. He and his wife, Beth, have three sons.
