Liberty University School of Law Achieves Phenomenal 94.4 Percent Virginia Bar Passage Rate

October 16, 2008

Lynchburg, VA – Liberty University School of Law is pleased to announce a 94.4% Virginia bar passage rate for the class of 2008. Liberty’s continued success on the bar exam places the law school in the top tier of all law schools in the country with respect to bar passage rates. Liberty’s graduates from the class of 2008 took the bar exam in 13 states.

Liberty surpassed expectations last year when the inaugural class achieved an outstanding 89.1% national pass rate on the bar exam. Most new law schools take years to break through the 70% bar passage rate, and the majority of established law schools never exceed 80%.

Liberty University School of Law opened in August 2004 and is part of Liberty University, which was founded by the late Dr. Jerry Falwell. Jerry Falwell, Jr., who is an accomplished attorney, serves as the University Chancellor and CEO.

In addition to providing a unique legal education grounded in the Western legal tradition and the Christian worldview, Liberty’s lawyering skills program is the most comprehensive in the country. This program combines the theory of law with the skills of law and provides a better foundation for legal education. Judges from many state and federal appellate courts have observed that Liberty’s moot court performance ranks at the top of all law schools in the nation.

Students at Liberty may participate in many externship opportunities. Some opportunities include real-life experience with judges, prosecutors, public defenders, legislators and policymakers, and business and corporate leaders. Students interested in public interest constitutional law may gain experience with Liberty Counsel working on cases that set national precedent.

Situated in historic Virginia near the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the law school is housed in state-of-the-art facilities on the 5,000-acre campus of Liberty University. It has a one-of-a-kind Supreme Courtroom where the central area of the courtroom is patterned after the nine-member bench in United States Supreme Court.

Mathew Staver, Dean of Liberty University School of Law and Founder of Liberty Counsel, challenged the class of 2008 to surpass expectations and exceed the phenomenal achievement of the class of 2007. Staver said: “Liberty University School of Law has established itself as a preeminent institution, providing a superior legal education in fidelity to the Christian faith. Liberty is training a new generation of lawyers, judges, policymakers, and world leaders in the rule of law. We expect our students to succeed and we challenge them to reach beyond their dreams. The law school has a great future, and the continued bar passage success is another indicator of Liberty’s unparalleled legal education program.”
