#FlamesGiveBack

February 26, 2019

During the Fall 2018 semester, Liberty University NCAA student-athletes served the community in many ways.

In September, Flames student-athletes participated in the annual Dollar Makes A Difference Campaign, raising over $4,600 for backpacks and school supplies, which they delivered to Lynchburg area schools. In October, they participated in the sixth annual Spooktacular Kids Carnival during Homecoming Weekend, and throughout the month, all Liberty Athletics teams collected close to 3,000 canned-food items for Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat. The food was given to Lynchburg Daily Bread, Park View Community Mission, Bedford Christian Ministries, and Liberty University Public Health program.

In November and early December, student-athletes participated in the Share the Warmth Clothing Drive and the annual Volleyball-A-Thon, which raised $2,000 for future community service initiatives.

“I think it’s extremely important to do community service,” said freshman tennis player Josh Wilson. “It is an opportunity to show love to people and help the community. We have all been given amazing opportunities to be able to attend Liberty University, and the least we can do is give back to the community.”
