Tuesday, February 20, 2018 LU Qualifies for 2018 MACCDC Regionals

On Feb.12, 2018, the Liberty University Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (MACCDC) student team once again qualified to participate in the Regional Competition at John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in March. This is the fifth year in a row that Liberty University will be sending a team to compete in the Regional Competition.

To qualify, the current Liberty University student team had to finish among the top 8 of over 30 highly competitive collegiate cyber teams.

The Liberty University team of 8 primary and 2 alternate student members began forming as a team prior to the end of the Fall 2017 semester, then spent the semester break researching and formulating a defensive plan.

Prior to the Spring 2018 semester and continuing until the qualification round, the team members conducted hundreds of hours of research and lab practice in their assigned area of specialization. At the beginning of the semester, the team began meeting in the Eagle’s Nest located in the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences to practice the communications and coordination critical for the successful execution of their plan.

For 5 hours on the evening of Feb. 12,  2018, the team was sequestered in the Eagles Nest, a Demoss lab, along with a volunteer Remote Site Judge, several pizzas, and lots of soda as they defended their assigned computer system assets against a determined attacking Red-Team.

Their efforts earned them a well done from the Red-Team!
