Who we are

Students at Liberty University who are majoring in Special Education have started a Student Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children. The CEC is the largest international, non-profit organization that provides support and information for children with disabilities, their families, and those who work with these children.

The Student Chapter of CEC at Liberty was formed early in Spring 2005, and membership is open to all majors. To become an official member of the CEC, one must join the national chapter of the CEC.   Through the national CEC organization there is a student rate of $69 with all the benefits that a professional receives just at a lower cost. When filling out the online membership application, be sure to select 0430 to become a member of Liberty University's CEC chapter.

CEC activities are great ways to earn professional points for those courses that require them. Consider being a part of CEC and our activities. This is a great way to touch a life and to change your own!

Mission Statement
  • To let our light shine by providing support to children with disabilities, their parents, and those who work with these children in our community.
  • Goals are to maintain strong leadership within the chapter and to provide a network of support to those in our community.

vision and goals for lu's student cec chapter

The Council for Exceptional Children at Liberty University seeks to humbly serve our Lord by being a loving, playful, powerful and passionate example of the absolute joy that is available to us each moment.  We strive to use the gifts God has given us to sincerely love and enjoy all of the opportunities we have to serve.  CEC provides workshops with guest speakers such as Jen Barrick to benefit colleagues and peers. We also offer special events, such as the iKids Karnival and Breakfast with Santa, for children with disabilities and their parents in the Lynchburg Community. The Liberty Chapter of CEC is a growing organization with high goals and expectations for our future. We desire to make an impact in the lives of children with special needs by involving college students who share the same passion.
