  • Fall 2018: July 16, 2018
  • Spring 2019: December 3, 2018
  • Summer 2019: March 18, 2019

Purpose: The doctoral internships provides students with supervised experiences activities of a regularly employed professional in the field of counselor education. Under the guidance of faculty, the primary focus of the Teaching Internship is to help doctoral students learn the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required for ethical and competent practice in their role of educating counselor trainees in the field of counselor educations. Students should review the Ph.D. Teaching and Supervision Internship Manual for detailed information.

Prerequisites: To be adequately prepared for this course, the student must have completed COUN 715, 730, 740, 745, and 998 (Practicum) with a B or above and passed the Qualifying Exam (COUN 969) to be approved.  In addition, students must have completed COUC 747.

Prerequisite courses are non-negotiable and must be completed prior to the start of the Internship. 

Teaching Internship Approval Process

Doctoral students interested in registering for a Teaching Internship will submit your request using the submission portal by the application deadline. You will need the following paperwork: 

  • Liability Insurance Face Sheet
  • Course and Time Preferences (list three)

Once you have completed the necessary steps, you will receive an email from to indicate that your request has been received. Please note that while we will make every attempt to honor your course and time preferences we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate your first choice.
