  • Dissertations, videos, and other audio/visual materials can be difficult to obtain due to cost and limited availability

Residential students: Can only request items the Liberty Library does not own (unless our copy is currently unavailable). Check the library catalog before placing a request.

Online Students: Can only request items from the Liberty Library.

Make a request

Requests for interlibrary loans must be made through ILLiad, the interlibrary loan system. ILLiad Account Info.

  • Log in to ILLiad
  • Fill out request form and submit
  • The GetIt@Liberty link in databases allows you to connect to your ILLiad account
  • Once in ILLiad, choose the request form and submit

Pick up items

Your item will arrive in 3 days to 3 weeks, depending on its type/location. You will receive an email when your item has arrived. Our office cannot control how quickly other libraries process our requests or the speed of postal delivery.

  • Articles must be retrieved online through your ILLiad account.
  • Non-article materials are picked up and returned at the Customer Service Center in the Library.

Faculty can have items delivered to their office or held at the Customer Service Center for pick-up. This selection will be made when creating your ILLiad account.

Canceling Requests

  • Click on Outstanding Requests under View on the left-side menu.
  • Click on the Transaction Number of the request you wish to cancel.
  • Click the Cancel Request link at the top of the page.

Limits on Requests

Unavailable Materials

  • Textbooks are not available through the Interlibrary Loan system
  • Any item that is not consistent with Liberty Way (e.g., Rated ‘R’ Movies, explicit content, etc.)
    Unless you provide course-related justification from a professor

Item Limits

  • Non-article items: up to 20
    excluding faculty and doctoral students
  • Articles: there is no limit for article requests

Lending Period

  • Articles have no due date and are yours to keep.
  • Non-article materials will have a label indicating the due date.
    The length of the loan depends on the lending library's policies


  • Renewal requests must be submitted before the item's due date.
  • The earlier your request, the more likely you will get a renewal.
  • Items can only be renewed 1 time.

Request a Renewal

  1. Log in to ILLiad
  2. Click on "Checked Out Items" under "View" on the left-side menu.
  3. Click on the Transaction Number of the request you wish to renew.
  4. Click the "Renew Request" link at the top of the page.

Please Note: your request has NOT yet been approved. We will contact you by e-mail regarding the status of the request. If after a week, you have not heard from the Interlibrary Loan office concerning your request, it is your responsibility to contact the office. Failure to do so can result in overdue charges.


Interlibrary Loan is usually free. If there are any costs, we will e-mail you before proceeding.


Fines are non-refundable
Faculty members are not assessed overdue charges unless the Library is billed by the lending library.

Lost item* Replacement cost + overdue fines
Item not picked up** $5
Removing item label $2

*Items more than 28 days overdue are declared lost.
**You must inform the ILL office if you no longer need a requested item.
