Yaun Named ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week

    Sep 29, 2022 | Lynchburg Va | Golf

Following his second career individual medalist honor, Liberty’s Jonathan Yaun has been named this week’s ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Yaun defeated NC State’s Maximiliam Steinehner on the second playoff hole to claim medalist honors at the 2022 Folds of Honor Collegiate in Grand Haven, Mich.

After each player posted a par on the first playoff hole, Yaun missed the green on the second extra hole, the 10th hole at the American Dunes Golf Club (par 72, 7,128 yards). However, the senior found the bottom of the cup with a 60-foot chip in to win the title.

Yaun finished the three-day event with a winning score of 5-under par 211 (69-69-73), matching the 54-hole total carded by Steinehner (73-69-69).

This is the second time in Yaun’s career he has claimed medalist honors. He shared the individual title at the Royal Oak Intercollegiate in 2019 (Oct. 21-22), posting an 8-under par 205 (73-65-67) at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas.

Yaun was one of the most consistent golfers in the 90-man field, ranking fifth in the tournament with 38 pars.

Yaun also ranked second in the field in par-5 scoring (-7/4.42 scoring average) and he helped the Flames lead the 18-team field in par-5 scoring (-16/4.73 scoring average).

As a team, the Flames claimed their first top-five finish of the young 2022-23 season, finishing in fifth place with a score of 15-over par 879 (290-293-296).

This is the fourth time in Yaun’s career he has been named the ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week. He also earned the honor twice during the 2019-20 season (Oct. 24 and Feb. 27) and garnered the honor on April 7, 2022.
