Yaun Holds Lead after Day 1 of Folds of Honor Collegiate

    Sep 26, 2022 | Grand Haven Mich | Golf

Liberty’s Jonathan Yaun helped the Flames to a strong finish to close out the day at the Folds of Honor Collegiate and individually holds the clubhouse leader following play on Monday.

Yaun was one of three Flames to birdie the par-5, No. 18 hole (538 yards) at the American Dunes Golf Club (par 72, 7,128 yards), allowing Liberty to finish the day in second place.

As a team, Liberty is second in the 18-team field after carding a 2-over par 290. Liberty carded seven birdies during its final four holes of play, despite battling windy conditions coming off the eastern shores of Lake Michigan.

The Flames trail clubhouse leader Florida State by three strokes after the Seminoles opened the tournament with a 1-under par 287.

Yaun was one of 11 players in the 90-man field to break par on Monday and holds a one-stroke lead over Grand Valley State’s Charles Delong (70) and Florida State’s Brett Roberts (70).

Joining Liberty in red figures was Isaac Simmons, who shares fourth place with seven other golfers who carded a 1-under par 71. Simmons carded six birdies during the first round, sharing the top birdie rankings with two other golfers.

The Flames will be sent off the No. 1 tee at the American Dunes Golf Club at 11 a.m. along with golfers from Florida State and Illinois.
