Yaun Chips In To Claim Medalist Honors at Folds of Honor Collegiate
Liberty’s Jonathan Yaun needed two more holds to claim his second career medalist honor, winning the individual title earlier today at the 2022 Folds of Honor Collegiate.
Following 54 holes of action around the American Dunes Golf Club (par 72, 7,128 yards), Yaun and NC State Maximiliam Steinehner stood atop the 90-man leaderboard.
After each posted a par on the first playoff hole, Yaun missed the green on the second extra hole. However, the senior found the bottom of the cup with a great chip to win the title.
Yaun finished the three-day event with a winning score of 5-under par 211 (69-69-73), matching the 54-hole total carded by Steinehner (73-69-69).
This is the second time in Yaun’s career he has claimed medalist honors. He shared the individual title at the Royal Oak Intercollegiate in 2019 (Oct. 21-22), posting an 8-under par 205 (73-65-67) at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas.
As a team, the Flames claimed their first top-five finish of the young 2022-23 season, finishing fifth place with a score of 15-over par 879 (290-293-296).
Illinois ran away with the team title, claiming victory by 15 strokes with a winning score of 10-under par 854 (292-277-285). Arizona finished in a distance second place with a 5-over par 869 (293-290-286).
The Flames had a pair of golfers post top-20 finishes. Joining Yaun in this group was Isaac Simmons, who finished tied for 11th place with a 1-over par 217 (71-73-73).
