Wilson, Worst, Thomas-Smith Named to CSC Academic All-District® Men’s Tennis Team

Liberty men’s tennis players Josh Wilson, Christiaan Worst and Deji Thomas-Smith have been named to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men’s Tennis Team® for their efforts in the classroom, as announced today by CSC (formerly CoSIDA).

To earn inclusion on the team, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, have played in at least 50 percent of their team’s games and have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA). In addition, a student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution.

As a result of their inclusion on the academic all-district squad, Wilson, Worst and Thomas-Smith will now appear on the ballot for the 2022-23 College Sports Communications Academic All-America Division I Men’s Tennis Team®. The first, second and third team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on May 31.

A fifth-year senior from Reigate, United Kingdom, Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in economics last May, accumulating a 3.94 GPA. Wilson has already earned a master’s degree in finance and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in economics while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. Wilson is a three-time ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and a four-time ASUN Academic Honor Roll member.

Wilson is a four-time ASUN All-Conference honoree, with three first team and one second team awards, along with being a three-time VaSID All-State team member. The graduate senior has also accumulated eight ASUN Player of the Week honors, tied for most in league history. Wilson has a Liberty record 91 career singles wins and second in doubles wins with 80.

A fifth-year senior, Worst graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration (finance) while maintaining a 3.92 GPA and will graduate with a master’s degree in business administration this month. He is currently maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA in his graduate work. The Pretoria, South Africa native has been named to two straight ASUN All-Academic teams and is a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.

In his three years with Liberty, Worst has totaled a 50-38 singles record and a 49-30 doubles mark. He was named to the ASUN All-Conference third team with 22 total wins this spring and earned his first ever ASUN Player of the Week honor. Worst garnered ASUN Doubles Pair of the Year distinction in 2021 with partner Thomas-Smith.

A junior, Thomas-Smith is currently studying exercise science (strength and conditioning) and maintaining a 3.55 GPA while palnning to graduate next May. The London, United Kingdom native has earned three ASUN Academic Honor Roll mentions and is an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Thomas-Smith has tallied a 63-50 singles record and a 53-43 doubles record in his three years with the Flames. He has been named to the ASUN All-Conference first team (2021) and second team (2022) along with being named to the ASUN All-Tournament team in 2021. He was also recognized in the ASUN Doubles Pair of the Year in 2021 with his partner, Worst.
