Willis Named to Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 List Image

Willis Named to Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 List

Following a game where he was responsible for all six of the Flames’ touchdowns, Liberty’s Malik Willis has been honored by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.

Willis was one of eight FBS quarterbacks named to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 listing for Week 3 of the college football season.

Willis was joined on the list by Holton Ahlers (East Carolina), Sean Clifford (Penn State), Matt Corral (Ole Miss), Jake Haener (Fresno State), Sam Howell (North Carolina), Tanner Mordecai (SMU) and Payton Thorne (Michigan State).

Against Old Dominion, Willis completed 21-of-28 pass attempts for 242 yards and threw four touchdowns. The quarterback also finished the contest with nine carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns, including a season-long 56-yard run.

The native of Atlanta, Ga., currently ranks No. 6 in the country in points responsible for (66). Through three games, he completed has 49-of-69 passing attempts for 613 yards and seven touchdowns. He also leads the Flames in rushing with 225 yards and four touchdowns.

He currently ranks fifth in the nation in rushing yards by a quarterback and is tied for fourth in the country in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.

Prior to the start of the 2021 season, Willis was named to the 2021 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch.

The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award.

Willis was one of 30 FBS quarterbacks named to the 2021 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch announced in July.
