The Starting 5 – Liberty’s Top Storylines

• Liberty (15-2, 3-1 ASUN) will host Jacksonville (9-5, 2-1 ASUN) on Wednesday for a battle between the ASUN East Division's second and third-place teams.

• The Lady Flames saw their 12-game winning streak snapped Saturday at FGCU. However, they have won six straight home games, six consecutive meetings with Jacksonville and 15 straight home meetings with ASUN foes.

• Dee Brown has scored a career-high 15 points in each of her last two outings. Since turning 22 on Dec. 29, she is averaging 9.2 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 4.8 apg and 1.6 spg over the last five games.

• Bridgette Rettstatt tallied 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds at FGCU for her third double-double of 2021-22 and the 11th of her career. She has scored in double figures in six of seven career matchups against Jacksonville.

• Bella Smuda excelled against Jacksonville as a freshman a season ago, tallying 27 points and 20 rebounds in 39 minutes during the teams' pair of meetings. She recorded her first career double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds) during a Jan. 31, 2021 home win over JU.

Notes and Anecdotes – Liberty vs. Jacksonville

• Jacksonville will try to become the first visiting ASUN women's basketball team to win at Liberty Arena. The Dolphins spoiled the Lady Flames' ASUN home opener at the Vines Center with a 64-52 decision on Jan. 12, 2019. Since then, Liberty has won six consecutive meetings with JU.

• This will mark Jacksonville's sixth visit to Lynchburg, while Liberty has played at Swisher Gymnasium only twice.

• Both teams defeated a Power Five opponent early on this season, including Liberty's Dec. 7 victory over Virginia Tech and Jacksonville's Nov. 9 season-opening triumph at Minnesota.

• Both squads suffered their only ASUN setback thus far at the hands of FGCU.

• Wednesday's winner will own a top-two spot in the ASUN East Division at this juncture. The top two teams in each division will earn a first-round bye in the ASUN Championship.

• Liberty leads the ASUN and ranks No. 5 nationally in scoring defense (50.5 ppg), while Jacksonville is third in the ASUN and No. 40 nationally, allowing 56.3 ppg.

• This is Carey Green's 23rd season as Liberty's head coach. His first season in Lynchburg (1999-2000) was Jacksonville's first year fielding a women's basketball team.

At Home Against the ASUN

• Liberty has won its first two ASUN home games of the season, improving to 10-0 all-time in conference matchups at Liberty Arena.

• The Lady Flames have won 14 straight ASUN Conference home games overall and have been victorious in their last 15 meetings with ASUN opponents in Lynchburg (including one in the 2020 ASUN Championship).

• Since joining the conference prior to the 2018-19 season, Liberty is 24-5 at home against ASUN Conference foes. The Lady Flames are 42-18 overall when facing ASUN opponents during that time.

A Winning Combination

• Liberty ranks No. 4 nationally in field goal percentage defense (32.9), No. 4 nationally in rebound margin (+13.3) and No. 6 nationally in scoring defense (+13.2).

• The Lady Flames are the only team who is currently ranked among the top 10 nationally for field goal percentage defense, scoring defense and rebound margin.

• Liberty has held five teams to their lowest scoring output of the season thus far, including Lee (39), Navy (42), Ohio (63), UTRGV (32) and Virginia Tech (40). The Hokies' 40 points at Liberty on Dec. 7 were their fewest in a game since Jan. 26, 2017.
