    The Starting 5 – Liberty’s Top Storylines
    • Liberty (4-1) will try to wrap up a 2-0 appearance at the Navy Classic when it meets Bowling Green (1-3) for the first time, Sunday at Alumni Hall.

    • Liberty Head Coach Carey Green enters Sunday’s matinee one win shy of 500 during his 23 seasons with the Lady Flames. He would join Paul Wetmore (softball, 547 wins, 1994-2013) as the only Liberty coaches to record 500 victories in any sport.

    • After defeating the host team 63-42 on Saturday, Liberty will look for its second 2-0 finish in three all-time Navy Classic appearances. The Lady Flames were previously 2-0 in 2009. Liberty’s last 2-0 Thanksgiving weekend showing came at the GSU Thanksgving Tournament (Nov. 28 & 30, 2014 in Atlanta).

    • Liberty is 5-2 all-time against MAC opponents, including 1-0 this season. The Lady Flames topped Ohio 66-63 on Nov. 13 at Liberty Arena.

Notes and Anecdotes – Liberty vs. Bowling Green
    • Bowling Green is the first of five first-time opponents on Liberty’s 2021-22 season schedule. The Lady Flames will later meet Grand Canyon, UTRGV and ASUN newcomers Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky for the first time.

    • Although the Falcons and Lady Flames have never met, they were both part of the 2006 Caribbean Classic in Cancun, Mexico and both played NCAA first round games in Louisville, Ky. in 2010.

    • Liberty is facing two MAC opponents in the same season for the first time in program history, after defeating Ohio 66-63 at Liberty Arena on Nov. 13. Ohio was the MAC preseason favorite, while Bowling Green is the defending MAC regular-season champion.

    • Both teams feature accomplished coaches. Carey Green, who is going for career win No. 500 on Sunday, has recorded 17 20-win seasons and coached the Lady Flames to the NCAA Tournament 14 times. In her fourth year at Bowling Green, Robyn Fralick was the 2021 MAC Coach of the Year. Prior to joining the Falcons, she was 104-3 at Ashland, coaching AU to the 2017 NCAA Division II national title.
