Toscano and Steenson Sweep ASUN Weekly Honors

2/24/2021 12:00:00 AM | Women's Lacrosse

Liberty's Mia Toscano and Sarah Steenson were each honored with ASUN Conference Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards on Wednesday afternoon. Toscano picked up her first career ASUN Player of the Week distinction, and Steenson received her third career ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor.

This is the first time Liberty has swept the two weekly awards since March 12, 2019, when Steenson (Defensive POW) and Carly White (POW) received the recognition.

Toscano scored three goals in Liberty's first road contest of the season at Robert Morris, last Sunday. The junior (fourth year) midfielder led the Lady Flames with five shots and also contributed three ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control.

Through two games in 2021, Toscano paces the team with eight ground balls and leads the team in caused turnovers with six. The Venetia, Pa., native ranks No. 8 in the nation in ground balls per game (4.00) and No. 7 in caused turnovers per game (3.00).

Steenson, a senior defender, led the Liberty defensive unit with four ground balls against the Colonials and was second on the team with three caused turnovers. The Haymarket, Va., native now ranks sixth in program history with 72 career caused turnovers. Steenson and the Lady Flames are No. 1 in the nation in caused turnovers per game (20.50) and third in the country in ground balls per game (28.00).

Toscano, Steenson and Liberty (1-2) defeated Cincinnati 14-10 this afternoon at the Liberty Lacrosse Field for the Lady Flames' first victory of the year.
