ASUN Men's Soccer Preseason Honors & Awards

Liberty Flames midfielder Seth Clark and Marko Mitrevski and defender Malik Smith have been selected to the 2021 Fall ASUN Preseason Men's Soccer All-Conference team. The league office released the team and the preseason men’s soccer poll, earlier this afternoon.

After posting a 7-3-2 mark this past spring, the ASUN head coaches have voted Head Coach Kelly Findley’s team to tie for third in the ASUN standings with Lipscomb. The Flames and Bisons each garnered 43 points in being predicted to finish third.

Defending ASUN Champion Jacksonville was tabbed to win the eight-team conference this fall. The Dolphins received four first place votes and 57 votes to top the poll. FGCU was picked second with two first place votes and 46 votes. Lipscomb received the final two first place votes.

Clark makes his second appearance on the preseason all-conference team. The midfielder was named to the team for the 2021 Spring season.

Clark was selected to the second team of the 2021 Spring All-Conference team. The Darfield, New Zealand native started all 12 games for the Flames, averaging 83.9 minutes per game. The sophomore finished second on the Flames with four goals and tied for fifth in the ASUN in that category. He also added an assist to his scoring total to finish the year second on the Flames and seventh in the conference with nine points.

In his first season with the Flames, Mitrevski garnered 2021 Spring All-Conference first team honors. The junior from Rochester, N.Y., started all 12 Liberty contests, seeing over 1,000 minutes of the playing time, averaging 88.7 per game. The midfielder led the ASUN Conference with six assists. He also scored a goal to finish the year tied for third on the Flames with eight points.

Smith started all 12 games at center defender for the Flames during the spring, earning inclusion on the 2021 ASUN Spring All-Conference second team. The Brampton, Ontario native was one of two Liberty field players to play over 1,110 minutes, 94.2 minutes per game, last season. The senior was part of a defensive unit that recorded eight shutouts and allowed 0.67 goals per game during the spring. The Flames ranked second nationally in shutout percentage (0.67).

Each ASUN team will play seven games with the addition of Central Arkansas to the conference. Liberty will open ASUN Conference play on Sept. 18 against Stetson in DeLand, Fla., and a week later will host FGCU for its first conference home match on Sept. 25.

The top six teams in the ASUN standings will advance to the 2021 Fall ASUN Men's Soccer Championship. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held at the home sites of the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, Nov. 5 and 7. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will receive a bye and play the quarterfinal winners in the semifinals. The finals will be played on the home field of the highest remaining seed on Nov. 13. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.

Liberty will begin its regular season at Duke on Aug. 27. The Flames will host Winthrop on Sept. 3 for their home opener at Osborne Stadium. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
