Official CoSIDA Release

Liberty senior middle blocker Aspen Thompson has been named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Volleyball Team®, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

As a result of her inclusion on the academic all-district team, Johnson will now appear on the ballot for the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America Volleyball Team®. The first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Dec. 15.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Thompson is the eighth player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors and first since Amelia Preston in 2019. Preston earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® third-team honors in 2019.

Thompson held a 3.96 GPA during her undergraduate studies, earning a bachelor’s degree in public health: pre-clinical while minoring in Christian leadership. She currently holds a 4.0 GPA, pursuing a graduate certificate in healthcare management.

The senior has had a strong career both on and off the court. This spring, she was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team while also earning Liberty’s 2021 ASUN Fall in Spring Winners for Life Award. She was a nominee for the 2021 Rock Royer/Mac Rivera Award.

Thompson has set career highs in kills and blocks this season and ranks second on the team in both hitting percentage (.236) and total blocks (72). She posted her first two 10-kill matches this season, and on Sept. 3 against Duquesne became the fourth player in program rally-scoring history to post a kills-blocks double-double. That afternoon, she scored 13 kills and added a career-high 10 blocks. Thompson has registered five or more blocks three times this fall.

She is one of three ASUN players to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Volleyball Team® today, joining Stetson’s Elena Djokovic and North Florida’s Gabby O’Connell.
